Steam Shower
Minnesota residents who suffer from allergies in the spring or suffer breathing problems from the cold, dry air of the winter will benefit from installing a steam shower. These units take up the space of an average bathtub, and have controls for temperature that can be placed inside or outside of the stall. Some folks install a set in both spots for maximum convenience.
It takes two gallons of water to sustain a steam bath for 20 minutes, but some fixtures also allow for traditional showers, too. Many of them also have benches to recline on and massager attachments. They’re also available in a wide variety of materials, ranging from granite or tile to fiberglass.
Walk-In Tubs
If you have mobility issues, a walk-in tub would be a great option for you. Instead of stepping over the rim of the tub, you swing open a door and step in. There’s no complicated latch to work either. Most tubs have a handle installed on top of the door that you just press down on with your palm, fist or elbow. The floor is textured to give you more traction, and they usually feature a bench that you can cushion with a pre-treated antibacterial seat cover.
Walk-in tubs often have two drains instead of one, so water funnels out more quickly when you’re finished. Some models have a 16-jet bubble massager built in, and a system that allows the bath to fill while the shower’s running.
Fiberglass Tub
Although both of the above baths are extremely nice, they can also be rather expensive. If you’re working on a budget, consider installing a fiberglass tub. They’re more affordable, look fantastic and last a long time. Since they’re made with a mold, they’re available in all sorts of styles, including the popular shower and bath combo. There are often built-in shelves or towel racks to make organization easier.
