One of the things we stress here at Iron River Construction in continuing education. Whether it is OSHA, Lead RRP, installation or even something as simple as computer skills, all employees are required to have at least 12 days a year of training.
There are several reasons we do this.
- Skills-it’s always a good thing to hone your skills and learn new tricks of the trades. Whether it is learning the new clearances of James Hardie siding, or trying out a new saw, we’re all about making things easier, better, faster.
- Regulations-Every year there are new or different regulations. Building code changes make an impact on every day construction. EPA lead RRP brought a new dynamic to cleanup, and OSHA keeps us on our toes to make jobsites safe.
- New products-There are always new building products on the marketplace, and we need to decide if we want to carry them, how to install them, and how to talk to homeowners about them.
- Sales-The days of a high pressure salesman are gone. We’ve never been that kind of contractor, but we still need to learn how to differentiate ourselves, and convey what an awesome company we are.
- Personal growth-How can we go beyond just our job, and actually contribute?
- Office-everyone hates paperwork, but it’s never going away. We are about 90% paperless, but everyone can hone their computer skills to make the process simpler and less frustrating.
- Professional training-It’s always good to collaborate with peers and other contractors. You can learn something new if you listen.
