If it’s been a while since you’ve put a bathroom in during your Minnesota basement remodel, your glass shower doors may be in need of a cleaning. Cleaning these doors can be a challenge, but there are more options available than the harmful cleaners currently on the market.
Baking Soda
An easy, nontoxic option for cleaning glass is to mix baking soda with just enough water to create a thick paste. Then, just spread the paste over the door with your fingers or a sponge. Once done, rinse it clean with vinegar. Water stains and any mildew growth will be long gone without damaging the glass.
Runners
If your shower doors are the sliding variety, the runners probably need a washing, too. Instead of scrubbing, plug the drain with some paper towel, douse the runners with vinegar and let it sit overnight. The vinegar will break up the stains and leave the metal looking shiny again.
Squeegee
The best way to clean the shower is to make sure it doesn’t get too dirty in the first place. If you and your family dry the walls and door after bathing with a squeegee or a towel, mold and mildew won’t have a chance to grow. Water stains won’t have a chance harden, either. It’s amazing how much difference frequent, quick cleaning jobs make. Hang a plastic squeegee on a hook right in your shower to make it convenient. However, if you use a towel or sponge, wring them out thoroughly every time you use them and let them dry completely. Always toss the towel or sponge in with the wash to keep germ levels down.
If everyone in your household follows your example, the most you’ll need to do in terms of cleaning is use a mixture of half water, half vinegar to spray the shower down with for a quick shine once in a while.
